Protection
We recommend that you protect your
home or office with a good anti virus software and a firewall
system. Alldigitalnet uses Norton Internet Security on all
of it's business workstations.
Here is what we do to protect
our computer systems.
- Un-install any previous anti
virus and or firewall programs from your system.
- Install a router if you are
using DSL or Cable modem. A router acts like a mechanical
firewall. We use a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router.
- Install Norton Internet Security.
This is the only Norton product we use, it seems to be
the least obtrusive when it comes to messing with your
operating system.
- Keep your operating system updates
current. If you are using Microsoft as your operating
system go here for the updates. We check them 3-4 times
per week, or as a habit every time we shut down a system. Microsoft Updates Page Click Here...
- We also use a terrific website
located at http://www.grc.com.
This website has many useful tools that help fix and clean
up security holes left behind by those at Microsoft.
- Lastly we are in the process
of moving away from Internet Explorer and Outlook. We
are considering Eudora for mail and Netscape as our browser.

- If you are using a free email
program such as Hotmail, MSN, yahoo and others, read up
on them and see which one is the most secure. You may
be contributing to the Internet's security problems by
using them.
- Lastly AOL is not the internet!
No matter how much money they spend on commercials, they
are probably the last choice if you find yourself stranded
on some desert island. I personally would choose a conch
shell before I installed AOL. That company is just about
out of the picture, and I'm sure another snake oil company
is waiting in the wings.
